FESTIVE 'SCAM' WARNING

Humberside Police have issued the following warning, which has been passed on to us by Brigg Town Council, as a matter of public information. We present it to you just as the police have written it:

The Trading Standards Office are making people aware of the following scam:
A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS (Parcel Delivery Service) suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and that you need to contact them on 0906 6611911 (a Premium rate number).
DO NOT call this number, as this is a mail scam originating from Belize.
If you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will already have been billed £315 for the phone call.
If you do receive a card with these details, then please contact Royal Mail Fraud on 020 7239 6655.

NIGE,

ANOTHER WARNING:

I RECENTLY FOUND AN E-MAIL THAT HAD BEEN DEIVERTED INTO MY SPAM FOLDER.

THE E-MAIL CLAIMED THAT A DELIVERY FIRM HAD BEEN UNABLE TO DELIVER MY PACKAGE AS IT WAS THE WRONG ADDRESS.

IT GAVE A REFERENCE NUMBER AND ASKED ME TO CONTACT 'FEX-ED' (allegedly) VIA AN ATTACHMENT.

THE COMPUTER HAD HOWEVER DETECTED A VIRUS; HOW HAD 'FED EX' GOT MY E-MAIL ADDRESS; I HADN'T SENT ANY PARCEL AND IF IT WERE A PARCEL SENT TO ME, WHY HADN'T 'FED-EX' CONTACED THE CONSIGNOR?

THE INFORMATION POSED MORE QUESTIONS THAT IT ANSWERED. IT WAS TEMPTING ME TO OPEN THE ATTACHMENT FOR FURTHER DETAILS - INDEED, WHY WOULD SHOULD THE MESSAGE NEED AN ATTACHMENT TO GIVE ME 'FED-EX' CONTACT DETAILS THAT COULD NOT BE GIVEN IN THE TEXT?

VERY - VERY SUSPICIOUS.

DELETED THE MESSAGE WITHOUT OPENING.

Ken you were exactly right to bin this e.mail it is a particularly nasty virus carrier that will infect your computer and eventually cause it to crash completely. You are also right that it does tempt you to open it and, particularly at this time of year, alot of people will get caught out thinking it could be referring to a Christmas gift. RESIST RESIST RESIST IS THE MESSAGE - or pay the price !
