Hoped-for improvements are on the way to traffic flows along Barnard Avenue, Brigg, which will help hundreds of local motorists.
Coun Nigel Sherwood has now been told by North Lincolnshire Council staff that over the last two Sundays they replaced the existing traffic controllers on Barnard Avenue/Cary Lane and Barnard Avenue/Old Courts Road. Cary Lane junction was managed without the use of portable signals, but Old Courts Road was done under temporary traffic signals.
The reason for the work was to upgrade existing signal controllers in preparation for installing a 'Linked MOVA' between the two signalised junctions. MOVA is a programmed system which reads traffic flows and adjusts itself to maximise the junction capacity and help traffic move more freely along Barnard Avenue.
There will be no further works on Barnard Avenue until workers start to install the MOVA which will be subject to funding. Again any works would be carried out on Sundays to reduce impact on traffic.

The system needs sensors in/on the road surface approaching the lights.
Remember those rubber activation strips of the old type traffic lights? We, as kids use to jump up and down on the strip and cause traffic lights to go into over-drive. I was a local scally at the time!!!
