BRIGG BLOG RAISES A FEW QUESTIONS IN PUBLIC

Brigg Blog continues to be surprised how few members of the public attend meetings of the Town Council which are always publicised in advance.
Although the vast majority of items to be discussed are expected, as they appear on the published agenda, there are notable exceptions - Questions from Members being a prime example.
This sometimes becomes a local mini-version of Prime Minister's Questions in the House of Commons. And just like the Parliamentary sessions, ours can involve a very wide range of topics being brought into the spotlight.

Brigg Town Council's latest meeting saw long-serving Coun Penny Smith, pictured above, get to her feet to ask questions about the re-introduction of the former Stennett's market auctions and the out-of-use public toilets near the Tintab shelter.
Coun Rob Waltham, as Leader of North Lincolnshire Council, replied to both.
Unlike Parliament, where the Speaker often has to demand "Order! Order!" things are good-natured and courteous in Brigg's Angel Suite when questions are raised by members.
Item 7 at monthly Town Council meetings is Public Question Time. When that was reached at the latest meeting there were no members of the public present - except for Brigg Blog occupying the press bench.
Perhaps the next meeting will see local electors in attendance. We will publish the full agenda nearer the time.
