BRIGG SHOPPING TRIP BY TRAIN - SMALL AMENDMENT

Further to our earlier post about the Saturdays-only £11.70 cheap shopping excursion available from Brigg railway station to Barnsley, there's a slight amendment to note.
Paul Johnson, pictured, campaigner for greater use of the Brigg line's passenger service, has now supplied the following about the return journey to Brigg, which is as follows:

  • Barnsley 1514
  • Meadowhall 1530 (Platform 3)
  • Sheffield 1537
  • Change Trains
  • Sheffield 1601 (Cleethorpes via Brigg)
  • Brigg 1726

Not sure why anyone would go shopping at Barnsley if they are first going through England's fourth largest city. But it's no doubt a ride out for train enthusiasts.

P.C. It's more to do with the oddities of the railway ticketing system than the ultimate destination. There is no through Brigg to Meadowdhall return fare, only a single for a touch over twenty quid; but there is a day return to Barnsley for eleven pounds and some odd pence involving a change at Meadowhall or a train calling there depending on which route you take. Buy to Barnsley and terminate your journey a few miles short seems to be the point of the exercise by taking advantage of an absurd pricing structure.
