BRIGG HOCKEY DINNER TO ROUND OFF MEMORABLE SEASON

Brigg Hockey Club's annual end-of-season dinner will be held on Friday, May 5 at Forest Pines (7.30pm for 8pm).
Various awards will be presented, including clubman of the year, the Len Marshall Trophy (named after a long-serving former president and umpire) and team of the season.
The ticket price is £31. Those interested in attending should see club members for details.
We attended many hockey dinners during our playing days - initially at the Angel Hotel and later at Arties Mill, Castlethorpe.
They all proved enjoyable and many were memorable for various reasons.
There used to be men's and ladies' hockey clubs, but they combined some years ago - a sensible move.
Various Brigg teams have been doing well this season and are chasing promotion, while the men's 1st X1 will be playing in the semi-finals of the national Vase competition on Sunday.
Just as important, though, is the fact that Brigg finally has a floodlit "Blue Astro" pitch at The Rec and no longer has to play all home fixtures in Scunthorpe.
The new facility  - installed by North Lincolnshire Council - saw its first hockey matches in January.
