WELCOME WIN FOR BRIGG TOWN

Brigg Town Cricket Club had a welcome home win at the Recreation Ground on Saturday (August 10).
Town defeated Outcasts 2nds, from the Isle of Axholme, by six wickets in the Lincolnshire County Cricket League Third Division.
An injury restricted Brigg opening bowler Tom Brock to only three overs and the visitors posted a par score for the Rec, making 159 for seven in their 45 overs,  with
the experienced David Hobson impressing with 56.
There were two wickets apiece for Brigg's Paul Neal, Danny Minshall and Jack Siddall, with Paul also pulling off a fine run out with a direct throw at the stumps.
Brigg batted well after tea and lost only four wickets in securing victory, Matthew Bell leading the way with an undefeated 63, wicketkeeper Mark Dawson making 34 and Jack Siddall capping a good all-round performance with an unbeaten 25.
With some regular players missing (for various reasons) and Tom Brock unable to make his usual inroads with the ball, this was a praiseworthy effort by the Brigg team who had 11 overs to spare when the winning run was scored.
Town are fourth in the table with four games to go - the last being in mid-September.
A good number of spectators went along to watch Saturday's game.
The Outcasts team included veteran all-rounder Ian Fletcher who was making a welcome return to the Rec where, many years ago, he took all 10 Brigg wickets in a North Lindsey League Sunday fixture - a very rare feat.
It won him a trip to the world-famous Lord's Ground in London - widely regarded as the home of cricket.
Saturday afternoon's weather was more like autumn than August, with a strong wind parting leaves, twigs and even the odd branch from the poplar trees that line the Rec.
Result: Brigg Town (16 pts) beat Outcasts 2nds (3 pts) by six wickets.

Umpire: Ralph Gray.
