BRIGG CLUB KEEPS UP TRADITION

A traditional event has sold out in Brigg - and well in advance.
Brigg & District Servicemen's Club has arranged a day trip to Skegness for Sunday, August 11.
But before July ended, all the places had been snapped up at £10 for club members and £12 for others.
The Brigg party - adults and children - will be leaving from Cary Lane on two buses at 9am, returning from the resort at 5pm. Hopefully, the weather will be warm and sunny.
It's good to see that the club, on Coney Court, is still running traditional outings like this.
Our picture shows people from Brigg during a summer day trip to Skegness in the late 1940s.  It could well have been organised by the Servicemen's Club.

As comedian Al Murray's  Pub Landlord says: "Pint for the gents, glass or wine or fruit-based drinks for the ladies." And, in this case, pop for the kids!
This is one of our favourite Brigg Blog archive pictures, capturing the mood of trips to the seaside that had to be suspended between 1939 and 1945 for obvious reasons.
Many Brigg folk also went to Cleethorpes, Skegness, Mablethorpe and Sutton-on-Sea on trains from our local station.
With the exception of Cleethorpes, this ended when the East Lincolnshire Line, heading south from Grimsby, was axed by British Rail in 1970.

You had to change trains at Grimsby Town station to reach resorts other than Cleethorpes.
Did you know It's still possible today to board a train at Brigg station on a Saturday morning and enjoy a summer day out in Cleethorpes?
