These pictures were taken 20 years ago in the town centre and give a reminder of how Brigg looked in August 1999.
They show one of the community fairs then held in addition to Brigg Horse Fair, but we also see some stalls from that day's general market.
The image above shows the Black Bull pub as it looked for many years, prior to being remodelled. John Smiths - the Tadcaster-based brewery - still had its name above the pub sign in 1999.
Coun Mike Tierney's shop was still trading on Wrawby Street 20 years ago - a popular place to go for sweets, toys, fireworks (ahead of November 5) and more.

Nige..please don't emphasise the Brigg Horse Fair and then suggest the other town is subservient to it.
On the contrary, the so-called town fair is the remnant of the Charted Brigg Fair, while the travellers' horse trading event is secondary...an event that attached itself to Brigg Fair circa 1880...and certainly not the other way round.
I remember the jazz band....I think that they only made one appearance....suggest that we could have a marching jazz band weekend...I use to go to the Brecon Jazz Festival years ago...very big crowds in small town...jazz in most pubs...bands marching about the streets...big, very big cash income for town.
Festival from Friday night to Sunday pm..visitors bought weekend tickets, stayed in guest houses, camps, caravans...some even slept in doorways..thriving business in cafes and pubs....buses took folks to timed jazz venues.....plastic glasses...inside and outside events..brilliant...2 day event meant folks stayed 2 nights; had meals..etc in Brecon.
