WHEN BRIGG STILL HAD A GOODS DEPOT

While we are in Nostalgic mood, Brigg Blog thought we'd share this picture of the old goods shed which used to be sited close to our railway station.
This view dates from the 1960s when items were brought to Brigg, and moved on, courtesy of the pick-up goods which arrived from Retford late in the afternoon, shunting wagons as required.
British Railways had a lorry based in Brigg to help with movement of a variety of goods.
The siding serving the goods yard went right through the brick-built structure.
We often watched  shunting operations during trainspotting trips.
At the very end of steam, circa 1964/5, they usually sent a grimy WD Austerity 2-8-0.
The mainline can be seen on the left, and there were sidings (not pictured here) to the right.
Exotic goods included oranges from Spain, bound for Spring's jam factory.
Two coal businesses received their supplies of Nutty Slack from Yorkshire and/or Nottinghamshire collieries.
