BRIGG TOWN CENTRE COSTA CAFÉ PLANS CONSIDERED BY COUNCILLORS

Brigg Town councillors this week discussed applications to transform the former Poundstretcher store into a café, install  a new shop front and display three illuminated signs.
A Costa Coffee franchise is understood to be interested in transforming the empty premises at 9 Wrawby Street.
Brigg Town Council’s Planning and Environment Committee, having scrutinised the applications at Wednesday night's meeting in the Angel Suite, came up with a number of observations.
It was stressed that the council has no desire to oppose “café culture”. However, it wants to ensure  tables and chairs outside the premises do  not encroach too far  onto the York stone paving. Brigg Town Council is suggesting a demarcation line.
It also feels the proposed shop front and internally illuminated signs would not be in keeping with the Conservation Area.
The Town Council also wants the untidy area at the rear of the old Poundstretcher store, facing the main Old Courts Road car park, to be addressed.

Those observations have been forwarded to North Lincolnshire Council planners who will now decide whether to grant the applications.
