BEWARE OF BRIGG ROAD CLOSURE

Brigg folk going to and from work in Scunthorpe this weekend, or  looking to return home after a night out, should take careful note of the following information issued by North Lincolnshire Council, the highway authority...
Work being carried out to install a roundabout on the A18 Mortal Ash Hill is set to finish on Thursday 4 December but there will be some temporary road closures in place before it is complete.
The temporary road closures will allow for the final surface of the new roundabout to be laid. There will not be any access to Tata Steel Gate A whilst this work is carried out. The closures will be as follows:
  • Friday 21 November from 10pm to 5am
  • Saturday 22 November from 10pm to 5am
Between Wednesday 26 and Friday 28 November the crossovers on the central reservation of the dual carriageway will be reinstated. Traffic management will be in place whilst this is carried out.
On Friday 28 November at 10pm the roundabout will be fully opened to let all traffic through. This will allow for resurfacing works to be carried out on the west and eastbound lanes between the new roundabout and Ashbyville (Morrisons) roundabout.
On Friday 28, Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 from 10pm to 5am the westbound carriageway will be resurfaced using a convoy system so traffic can still use the road. On Monday 1, Tuesday 2 and Wednesday 3 December from 10pm to 5am the eastbound carriageway will be resurfaced using a convoy system also. The roundabout and Tata Steel Gate A will be open to traffic on these nights but there will be restricted access.
On Thursday 4 December all traffic management will be removed from Mortal Ash Hill and Gate A will be fully open.
Rob Beales, Head of Highways Services at North Lincolnshire Council, said: The new roundabout will improve traffic flow along the A18 at Lakeside Roundabout, on Queensway and on Brigg Road, particularly around the Steelworks at peak times. The work has gone to schedule, as we expected that it would take six months to complete, which is great news. Throughout the work being carried out we have managed to keep parts of the A18 Mortal Ash Hill accessible to motorists. However it has come to a point where we do need to temporarily close the road. The closure has been planned for overnight and at the weekend to ensure that the least amount of disturbance to motorists is caused. We appreciate drivers’ patience whilst this work has been carried out. They will see a positive a difference once the roundabout is fully functional.”
