Hornsbys new direct - we're calling it express - 25-minute bus service linking Brigg with Scunthorpe town centre launches tomorrow (Monday, July 2).
There will be an hourly service, marked X4 on the front of the buses, leaving Cary Lane for the steel town at 8am, 9am, 10am, 11am, noon, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm, 4pm and 5pm; plus a 6pm departure from the stop adjoining Wetherspoon's White Horse pub.
The new direct service cuts out Castlethorpe, Broughton and Ashby town centre and shaves 20 minutes off the journey time, though it does stop at the stop near Scunthorpe's Morrisons store.
However, Castlethorpe, Wressle and Broughton will still be served by the No 4 service which continues between Brigg and Scunthorpe, IN ADDITION to the new X4.

Printed brochures are also available locally, giving timetables for Services 4 and 4X, plus No 94 (Brigg-Scawby-Hibaldstow-Redbourne-Kirton Lindsey), 450 (Brigg to Barton) and 91/92 (Brigg, Howsham, Brigg Garden Centre).
We expect the new X4 service to prove popular, not only with folk from Brigg visiting the steel town but also in attracting Scunthonians to come to Brigg for shopping, eating and drinking.
The X4 has extensions to Wrawby, Barnetby and Humberside Airport, Kirmington.

I have mixed feelings about the X4 as a replacement for services east of Brigg as both that and the Saturday C4 service cut off everything past Kirmington village. The service from Scunthorpe to the Airport is better, and it looks as though the service has been set up as an Airport service. It's only a Brigg bus by accident.
It is almost an accident that it still stops in Barnetby, and there's no gain from the end of the school-run commitment. It's better for a trip to Scunthorpe, but still stops before the end of the working day
