Some years ago, Brigg Blog was delighted to report that the historic Hett Cup
was again being played for by local footballers taking part in a competition raising funds for good causes and hosted by Brigg Town FC at its Hawthorns ground.
This cup was donated to local sport more than 100 years ago and carries the name of a family very well-known in and around Brigg.
Martin North, of Brigg, as spokesman for the current Hett Cup, now tells us that part of the proceeds from this year's competition, £300, have been donated to the Air Ambulance, with the same amount going to the Lindsey Lodge Hospice in Scunthorpe.
Martin has thanked all players, officials and supporters at Brigg Town Football Club "for their continued support."
He contacted Brigg Blog after reading our recent post about Jason Walkley, the former Brigg Juniors footballer, who is to undertake a major fundraiser for the Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance. Read the story through this link...
The full title of the handsome trophy pictured above is The Hett Football Charity Cup, and it was first used during the 1912/1913 season.
Lindsey Lodge Hospice has a charity shop on Wrawby Street, Brigg.
