TRAINSPOTTING: RARE VISITOR FILMED ON THE BRIGG LINE

With the very recent launch of the long-awaited new Trainspotting movie, this topic is very much in the news at present.
Meanwhile, railway buffs and trainspotters were treated to a rare sight on the Brigg line last Saturday (February 4) which some enthusiasts were quick to record on film.
Their interest centred on the deployment of a Class 158 diesel unit, pictured by D Barrett, to whom thanks are extended and credit given for his image (above).
Brigg line campaigner Paul Johnson tells us that the "rare visitor" - No. 158903 - worked the 0803 train from Sheffield to Cleethorpes via Brigg and the 1114 return service from the resort to Sheffield through Brigg.
Paul reckons a  few extra people came out to travel on this unit "when word got around on social media."
He has also forwarded a picture of the new Northern Railway Class 195 unit (below), to be used on  Lincoln-Sheffield-Leeds services from 2019. Very impressive!
Sadly, illness last weekend stopped Paul from making his scheduled Saturday visit to Brigg on the first train of the day from the Sheffield direction.
This will have affected trade at the Deli & Diner, on Wrawby Street, where he usually enjoys a hearty breakfast after a brisk walk from the railway station into the town centre.
We hope he has recovered sufficiently to ride the Brigg line this Saturday - the only day of the week on which our station receives passenger trains (three in each direction).
