Nige, did you know that Lollipop folks are one of a small group of people who can legally stop traffic....others include police and custom officers.....
The answer may be obvious but Lollipops belong to a very select group....
how about the banks men who stop traffic for lorrys backing out into traffic
Banksmen are there for H&S reasons....guiding trucks in and out of restricted areas.....BUT they have no legal standing to stop traffic on public roads, Pete. It is expected that both car drivers and the reversing HGV driver, aided by the banksman, use common sense.
However, it would be the height of stupidly if a driver ignores someone waving a hi-viz vest on motorway....and whizzes along at 70+ mph...
But this is not to be confused with local legislation that can close a road for 15 mins....refer to Brigg's recent and future Remembrance Sundays.......the police withdrew their traffic cop support in the autumn of 2016.....but despite the legal 2016 temporary legislation, manned by volunteers,a police car interrupted the parade....questions have been asked to establish for what reason the police car split those parading.....but no answer has been forthcoming...see Nige's Nov comments..
