On the positive side, the official opening of newly-refurbished Brigg Recreation Ground, off Wrawby Road, will take place at 9.45am, with Brigg & Goole MP Andrew Percy unveiling a plaque, accompanied by Brigg & Wolds representatives on North Lincolnshire Council.
The authority has funded this impressive project, with its all-weather courts and new changing room complex.
However, due to work commitments, Brigg Blog must be in Scunthorpe tomorrow morning and therefore has had to decline the kind invitation to attend.
This is particularly sad for us, have been part of the original Brigg Hockey Club group which, back in the late 1980s, began the long campaign to get a floodlit all-weather pitch provided in the town.
That was during the era of Humberside County Council and Glanford Borough Council.
However, 30 years later, Brigg at last has a Rec Ground in which everyone can take great pride. And many thanks go to the North Lincolnshire authority for finally making things happen.
Work is still in progress on revamping the cricket outfield and playing square. However, everything else is in place, and the Brigg club began playing men's (pictured) and ladies' hockey matches on the new pitch last month - ahead of the official opening.

Talking about ladies, the front cover of the next issue of Brigg Matters, out in the near future, shows a colourful picture of three Brigg Hockey Ladies...with bright pink captions!
Within its pages there is a photo article about the Air Cadets, with the text written by one of cadets.
In addition, the reason for the quiet disappearance of the popular, Lincoln biscuits from grocery shelves some 12 years ago has been solved.
They're still about if you know where to look.....just ask my granddaughter!
Just a thought, Nige....re 'All Weather' courts.....what happens in periods of heavy snow.....and dense fog?
Yep...officially opened today, 17th Feb.
Fantastic facilities inside and out the communal block.
But, I feel there is a flaw in the procedure for accessing the courts.....by paying a fee and then receiving the combination code for the gate locks.
In practical terms, despite how well-intentioned, I can't see anyone having the time to change locks/combinations on a regular bases.
Indeed, once someone uses the Rec regularly, he/she can become aware of the obvious finite number of combinations/locks.....
Pete, in an earlier comment, has suggested a swipe card method of entry....this system both restricts to single use and monitors the individual using the court...
.....and then there's there to monitor/restrict thd access road.
With the proposal of redeveloping Station Rd.....there is an urgent need to ensure that the Rec is used as the 'designated' site for the Horse Fair...
...oops!..'is NOT used'.....
