This picture by Ken Harrison, of the Brigg Matters newsletter, shows students from Sir John Nelthorpe School on the new all-weather floodlit "Blue Astro" pitch on the day the new Recreation Ground was officially opened by Andrew Percy, the Brigg & Goole MP and Government Minister, second from right.
On the left of picture are Couns Nigel and Carl Sherwood, while North Lincolnshire Council's leader, Coun Rob Waltham, is on the right. They are the local authority's three Brigg & Wolds Ward representatives.
Seeing the girls and boys from SJN on the new all-weather facility set Brigg Blog wondering how much use will be made of the 21st century Rec in the months and years ahead by students from Nelthorpe School and the Vale Academy.
We'd like to think the answer is: A great deal.

Going back to one of your earlier comments, Nige......Perhaps the Rec should be given a name.
As you suggested Colby Park, after John Colby, the retired Rec groundsma would be suitable.
But when I suggested that to a NLC councillor, he argued that one has to be deceased before a NLC facility is name after a notable person. As John is alive and kicking, he would not qualify .....but I did indicate the example of the Plowright theatre...Lady Plowright is still alive so there's exceptions to the rule......and, further afield, we have Princess Diana's Hospital in Grimsby.....named before she was killed....and various Queen Elizabeth ships....checkmate!
