Brigg Town Council is
to continue with a new system of meetings it introduced six months ago.
There is now only one
main committee - for planning & environment – with all other business dealt
with by the Town Council.
Previously, there had
been a policy committee, a property & services committee and one for
planning & environment.
The new system reduced
the overall number of meetings.
At its annual meeting
this week in the Angel Suite, the council reviewed how the new system has
operated.
Coun Carl Sherwood
said whereas a few councillors on a committee might have decided something
under the old system, the new one gave all 19 a say when business was discussed
during a full meeting of Brigg Town Council.
Coun Rob Waltham said
some good decisions had been made during the past six months. “What we have got
now is a good system,” he added.
However, Couns James
Truepenny and Mike Campion expressed a preference for the old system involving the
additional committee meetings.
Coun Truepenny said it
gave councillors more time to consider issues, while Coun Campion said he
“reserved judgement” on the new system and hoped there would be a further
review in a year’s time.
All meetings of the
Planning & Environment Committee and Brigg Town Council are open to
interested members of the public.
Details of when these
are to be held are posted by Brigg Blog a few days in advance – generally
including the agenda.
All meetings are in
the Angel Suite – either the main room or the downstairs Lounge, to which
access can be gained by the stairs or lift.
