BRIGG BIKE HUB MAKES FLYING START

The first event from the new Bike Hub in Brigg got off to a flying start and was a huge success with 10 people attending the first ever ‘This Girl Can’ pilot bike maintenance course organised by North Lincolnshire Council.
The Bike Hub, situated at the Courtyard Café, is a new initiative to encourage people (men, woman and families) to enjoy cycling and get out on the many great cycling routes in and around North Lincolnshire.
The course, led by a British Cycling Level 2 coach, included four weeks of free bike workshops that covered all the basics in bike handling and maintenance including fixing punctures, ‘M’ checks (bike safety checks) and technical riding skills. The course finished with a 22 mile bike ride on Sunday 8 May.
North Lincolnshire Council received funding from Welcome to Yorkshire.
Feedback from participants:
  • “A new group of friends, vastly improved confidence, feel fitter and faster."
  • "My bike skills have greatly improved giving me more confidence to ride in groups and alone. It’s been brilliant to meet up with other riders and boost each other’s confidence"

Coun Carl Sherwood, from Brigg, Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing at North Lincolnshire Council, said: “The council received funding from The National Lottery to run a bike maintenance course for women to help more women feel confident and fitter on their bikes. And to break down any barriers that may prevent them from taking part in this popular activity.
“This was the first time we ran the course and it was a huge success. We will now be looking to attract more funding to run further courses so that more women can benefit.
“The Hub is a fantastic facility. It provides a great meeting place to start and end your bike ride and finish off with a well-deserved cuppa and piece of cake!”
