BRIGG GETTING SNOW IN NOVEMBER

Having seen an article suggesting we might well be in for some snow in November, Brigg Blog thought: So what? It is really unusual.  All these pix were taken on November 29, not many years ago. We've also had snow on November 30 when  Brigg Blog took a snowy after-dark Market Place picture which was used a year or two later on the front cover of  the Town Mayor's Christmas card.
Going back to 1971, we had snow in Brigg on November 19 and 20.
So what are the odds of snow falling during November 2014?

Interestingly enough, Nige, the odds are about the same as snow falling in some parts of the Arctic and Antarctic ....
The two places are cold deserts - ie less than 10" precipitation pa. When there is a snow storm, it is often the wind blowing the settled snow around - a bit like a sand-storm.
The reason that there is so much snow in the Arctic et al is that the snow doesn't melt and over millions of years there is a massive accumulation of layers...
