Brigg Town Cricket Club's very faint hopes of securing the second promotion place disappeared on Saturday (September 7).
They lost by four wickets when visiting Nettleham 2nds in Lincolnshire County Cricket League Division Three.
That means Nettleham finish runners-up behind Broughton 2nds, who had already secured the championship and completed their programme.
With one game to go, Brigg now find themselves in fourth place, as near rivals Lindum 2nds also won well on Saturday.
Town totalled only 62 at Mulsanne Park, Nettleham - opener Danny Bradley top scoring with 15.
However, they made the home side fight hard for victory after tea, claiming six wickets - all taken by their experienced left-arm seam bowlers.
Phil Dewfall, pictured above, finished with four for 24 and Nick Beacock with two for 33.
Broughton's first teamers - fifth in Division One - enjoyed a convincing home victory over Outcasts on Saturday.
Hibaldstow - second spot in Division Two - won well at Hartsholme 2nds.
