BOB THE MASSIVE BRIGG BARGE HORSE CHANGES HANDS

An impressive horse that once pulled barges along the River Ancholme towpath in the Brigg area was so well-known and highly regarded that an artist, M N Carr, painted his picture.
The huge watercolour shows Bob the Massive Brigg Barge Horse, who was famed for his magnificent mane and tail which was braided while he was working on our local river, circa 1860.
The painting has now been acquired by an antiques dealer down in Sussex who has kindly contacted Brigg Blog.

Barbara has researched interesting information about barge horses working on canals and rivers. She is keen to know more about Bob, the horse. If you can help, please let Brigg Blog know and we'll pass on any information received.
Perhaps the artist who painted Bob was from northern Lincolnshire.
