BRIGG SPORTING TRADITION CONTINUES

Saturday night saw Brigg Blog visit a couple of town centre pubs and experience a few pangs of nostalgic regret.
We encountered some local amateur sportsmen enjoying an after-match drink, which brought back memories of 30 playing years now long gone.
Once deemed too old to participate, you miss the cameraderie which Brigg Men's Hockey Club stalwart umpire and official, Len Marshall, dubbed Apres Hockey. This applies equally to football and cricket.
With the arrival of smart phones, though, today's Brigg sportsmen and sportswomen no longer have to wait hours until away teams return  to find out how the club's other XIs got on, which used to be the case.
During Saturday nights in the hockey season, when local players met up at the Queen's Arms, a pile of kit-bags grew ever bigger near the sliding door entrance to the bar.
Finding your own, when heading home late in the evening, was often quite a task. Especially if you'd had a few!
It's good to see the current sporting generation in Brigg still meeting up for a pint or two after the match, though we didn't observe any kit bags!
