NEW TRAIN SERVICE COMING THROUGH BRIGG THIS SATURDAY

A brand new train service will be coming through Brigg on Saturday - in both directions - but won't be stopping at our station to pick up or drop off any passengers.
First TransPennine Express, whose trains between Scunthorpe and Doncaster have been replaced with buses because of a landslip at Stainforth and Hatfield, will be operating a special Saturday train between Sheffield and Cleethorpes starting on May 25.
It will start from Sheffield at 1030am, picked up passengers at Retford and Grimsby Town, arriving at Cleethorpes at 1213.  It will consist of a three-car Class 185 train with a seating capacity of 181.
The return train will leave Cleethorpes at 1811,  arriving back in Sheffield at 1958.
Both will come through Brigg, Barnetby, Kirton Lindsey and Gainsborough, but will not be stopping.
Nick Donovan, FTPE Managing Director, said: "We have been working very closely with our colleagues at Network Rail to restore the line between Scunthorpe and Cleethorpes as quickly as possible. The engineering challenge that the landslide presented has been a complex and challenging one for all and the shear scale of  the operation in and around Hatfield and Stainforth has been immense.
"I am therefore delighted with and welcome the positive news from Network Rail that substantial progress has been made in removing much of the spoil and starting the re-build of the railway infrastructure. Whilst there is still a significant amount of work to be completed we are striving for the restoration of services before early Autumn. This is great news for rail passengers and affected communities on the route.
"From Saturday 25th May we will be running a special Sheffield to Cleethorpes train service via an alternative route and we have put in a place a 2 for 1 special ticket offer for that rail service and also the bus replacement service."
Brigg Blog is still hopeful that someone in authority will pressure FTPE into stopping the special trains at the stations in North Lincolnshire on future Saturdays. It will only take a few minutes and the modern 185 unit will have no trouble making up the "lost" time.
