North Lincolnshire’s aviation heritage is to be celebrated at a special event which will include a fly-past by historic planes from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, based at RAF Coningsby.
While Brigg Blog was taking a short break in the London area on Saturday (June 9) we attended a village community event which included fly-pasts by the Red Arrows, from RAF Scampton, and (shortly afterwards) the Lancashire, Hurricane and Spitfire of the Memorial Flight. It was Trooping the Colour Saturday in the capital.
The community event was raising funds for the RAF Fund marking the 100th anniversary of the service.

Following the success of the first ever North Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Festival last year another has been planned this year on Sunday 29 July at Skydive Hibaldstow.
Supported by the council, Northern Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Forum and Skydive Hibaldstow are working together to host the festival at the former RAF Hibaldstow airfield from 10am to 5pm.
The event will celebrate the eight airfields across Northern Lincolnshire and focus on the aviation history of the area.
The story of Northern Lincolnshire’s heritage from World War One to the present day will be told throughout the day.
There will be a special Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Flypast, live music from Miss Marina Mae and George Formby Experience, a range of food, drink, charity and trade stalls, and children’s activities.
Northern Lincolnshire aviation history, Hibaldstow History Group and RNAS North Killingholme will have exhibitions on display.
You can also watch skydives taking place throughout the day, discover World War Two RAF living history displays and have a go in the Spitfire cockpit simulator. Classic cars and wartime transport will be on display.
Pennine Region Balloon Association are bringing tethered hot air balloons.
Hibaldstow Astronomical Society will be there promoting the science of astronomy with a display of telescopes including the ability to view the sun safely, giving a view of the sun normally only seen at a total eclipse.
Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance will also be doing a special landing at the festival.
Brigg Heritage Centre are going to be providing activities for children to make crafts, decorate paper aeroplanes, hot air balloon making and colour.
The festival is free but any donations are welcomed. All proceeds will go to the Northern Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Forum to help with the continued success of the festival.
We’ll be attending Lincolnshire Show (20 and 21 June) again this year and the focus will be on Northern Lincolnshire’s Aviation Heritage.

“We are lucky enough to have another Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Flypast this year, so make sure you don’t miss that.”
