I had a lovely dog once, a golden retriever called Lucy. She lived to a ripe old age of 16.
We have her a treat....a full groom treatment and when she came out she was sparkling, had a fresh smell about her. Her claws were neatly trimmed and even her whiskers were symetrucally cut.
As soon as she got home, she made a bee-line for the garden where she rolled about and squirmed in the grass......then she came inside....there was a terrible odour, Lucy looked innocent with her big brown eyes.....then we discovered attached to her coat the purified skeletal remains of a dead hedgehog!
But that was Lucy.
On another occasion, a couple of hours after professional grooming, WE took her for a walk towards St Helen's Well. We made a mistake as she loved water and any sight of water, Lucy would jump in. She even jumped into a sheep's water trough in Scawby Park and refused to come out.
Anyway, on the path to St Helen's Well there were/are some dykes of greeny slime water. In she went and emerged like the monster from the lost lagoon.
On another occasion, she jumped in the Ancholme at Brigg....swam to Broughton Bridge and got out where Jackson's supermarket use to be (now B&M)......at Swanage one cold Easter she jumped into the sea and refused to come out rob the extent that an elderly lady started to hit me with her walking stick claiming that I was being cruel to a dog and needed arresting!
