BARNETBY FC CELEBRATE FIRST LEAGUE WIN FOR 394 DAYS!

REPORT AND PICTURES FROM LEE FIELDEN, BARNETBY UNITED FC

The wait is over. After 394 days Barnetby Football Club have finally recorded a league win in the 1st division of the EC Surfacing Scunthorpe & District League.
Their 3-2 away victory against Sherpa  brought their first 3 points haul since March 8th 2017.
It didn’t look great in the early stages as Sherpa had already struck the bar before Steven Broughton powered home an unchallenged header on the quarter-hour mark as Barnetby made a sluggish start to the game.
This kicked Barnetby into life. And following a disallowed Dunnion goal, centre half Darren Britcliffe threaded a ball through to Will Hartley who rounded the keeper and kept his cool to notch his 158th goal for the Railwaymen.
The game ebbed and flowed until, on the stroke of half-time, captain Joe Scott chipped a ball through to Adam McGuire who put Barnetby in front with a subtle finish.
The second half followed similar lines as chances were created at either end.

Sherpa struck the post with a great chance before intricate play between Kieran Hunsley and McGuire found Shaun Clarke 16 yards out who made no mistake to put Barnetby 3-1 up.
Josh Smith struck with 3 minutes to go to make it 3-2 and leave Barnetby a nervous final period to see out, which they did to secure the long awaited 3 points.
