WINNER OF JOSEPH J. MAGRATH O.B.E. BRIGG AWARD FOR PUBLIC VOLUNTARY SERVICE 2017 ANNOUNCED BY TOWN COUNCIL

FROM DINAH LILLEY, TOWN CLERK, BRIGG TOWN COUNCIL

At the Brigg Town Council Meeting on Monday 22 January 2018, the recommendation that the Joseph J. Magrath O.B.E. Award for Public Voluntary Service to the Community of Brigg, should be given to Mrs Jean Neall, of Brocklesby Park Homes, Brigg, was agreed.
The award is given to Mrs Neall, pictured, in recognition of her tireless commitment to the Community of Brigg.
The following citation leaves the reader in no doubt why Mrs Neall has been chosen to receive this award....

She is known for her many voluntary jobs for the Community, the first of which was doing the cooking at Brigg Football Club, where she cooked for more than eight years, for all the players after the matches, as her husband Gordon was a big supporter at Brigg Town and never missed a match.
She later started doing a buffet once a month at the local BASH (Brigg Amateur Social History) meetings which she still does to this present day.
Her other voluntary job is cooking for the Methodist Church lunch club every fourth Friday, where she and her friends cook a two course lunch for about 25 people to raise money for the church.
Besides doing all this, she still finds time to visit two 90 year old ladies in a care home in Brigg once a week, who she knows from another home in Brigg where she used to work years ago.
Baking is one of her big hobbies and she is always baking cakes and pies for all her neighbours, many of whom are widowers and live on their own.  She thinks nothing of cooking an extra dinner for a man down the road who lives alone.
She also helped to run a Brownie Pack in Brigg 23 years ago, when her three young granddaughters were old enough to join.
Jean has been cited as a marvellous and extraordinary person for all she does for the Community, being herself in her 80s.
The Town Mayor and Members of Brigg Town Council are fully aware of Mrs Neall’s unfailing dedication and commitment to the community of Brigg, and the time and effort she gives to everyone.
The Town Council is, therefore, delighted to be given this opportunity to recognise the work she does for the benefit of others, and it was unanimously agreed that she is a most worthy recipient of the Joseph J. Magrath O.B.E. Award for Public Voluntary Service 2017, which will be presented on a date to be agreed at the Angel Suite, Brigg.
