HEAVY CONDITIONS LEAD TO HEAVY DEFEAT FOR BARNETBY FC

REPORT FROM LEE FIELDEN

In the EC Surfacing Ltd Scunthorpe & District Football League first division, Barnetby and Limestone met yesterday (Saturday, February 10) for the second time in a week and again conditions were heavy and not conducive to passing football.
Both sides tried, though, and after missed opportunities for both Limestone took the lead on the half hour when Barnetby failed to clear a corner.
1-0 at half time and the game was in the balance. Barnetby had a great chance to equalise but hit straight at the keeper; 15 seconds later it was 2-0.
Minutes later Barnetby had the chance to pull a goal back as the post and keeper were hit; inevitably, 15 seconds later it was 3-0.
Limestone dominated the remainder of the game and ran out worthy 5-0 winners on a more-than-heavy pitch.

N.F. ADDS: Brigg-based Briggensians saw their scheduled Tortank Barton Brotherhood Cup semi-final at Crosby Juniors postponed yesterday.
In division two, Barnetby Reserves' trip to Limestone Rangers Reserves was also a casualty of this week's wet weather.
On Saturday, February 17 Barnetby United will host Sherpa in a Johnstone Insurance Nursing Cup semi-final at Silver Street (K.O.1-30pm).
There will be a local derby in division two, with  second-placed Briggensians at home to Barnetby United Reserves, who are fourth in the table. That clash will start at 2pm.
