WARNING: £80 FINES FOR THOSE CAUGHT DROPPING LITTER IN BRIGG WHERE STREET CLEANING TAKES PLACE SEVEN DAYS A WEEK

People caught littering the streets of Brigg can land themselves with £80 on-the-spot fines.
That has been made clear by Coun Rob Waltham, who is the Leader of North Lincolnshire Council.
He has also stressed that cleaning the streets goes on seven days a week.
His comments follow new year calls by members of the public for action over street litter.
Coun Rob Waltham, who lives in the town, told Brigg Blog: "It is a shame that a few thoughtless individuals wish to spoil the look of our town by dropping litter.
"Littering is a totally unacceptable and unnecessary crime and our enforcement officers have the power to issue on-the-spot fines of £80.
"Our officers patrol the town centre, monitor CCTV and investigate reports from the public in an effort to stamp out littering.
"The council has increased the street cleaning of Brigg town centre to seven days a week to keep the town looking its best.
"Around the town centre there is a lot of privately owned land and we urge businesses in these areas to do their bit in keeping the town clean.
"A number of voluntary organisations also help to keep the town clean including the Ancholme River Trust, Brigg Town Council and the Campaign to Protect Rural England.
"The Great British Spring Clean will return to North Lincolnshire this March.
"Last year, 300 volunteers across our area collected over 700 bags of rubbish for the clean-up.
"Any groups or individuals in Brigg wishing to take part this year can get in touch with the council on 01724 297775 or email neighbourhoodservices@northlincs.gov.uk ".

Among Brigg  residents making new year calls for town streets to be much tidier is Ken Harrison. He suggests that, when it comes to litter, a massive improvement scheme is needed.

Ken Harrison
A "Very Angry Resident" (name known to us) then emailed Brigg Blog to say she totally agreed,  describing litter in the town as a disgrace.
She drew particular attention to the eastern end of the town centre, with takeaway meal "rubbish" plus empty cans, bottles, plastic carrier bags, plastic cups,  dog mess and vomit  on the pavement and in doorways.
"A conservation area - it's a joke!" she suggested.
"This will not attract people to visit Brigg. I  wouldn't, if I lived out of town."
She went on to call for councillors to take this issue onboard, adding: "Brigg needs a good clean-up and businesses need to be made responsible for the litter and mess outside their premises. It's called putting the pride back in the town."
She added: "We always clean the outside of our house and remove any litter, etc."
Brigg Blog has posted about litter from time to time but did not realise that members of the public feel so strongly about it.
We often see early morning clean-ups going on in the town centre as we trudge our way down Wrawby Street, through the Market Place to Cary Lane.
Would extra litter bins help? Perhaps. But several times recently we have seen litter strewn about on, and adjoining, the Tintab shelter near the Monument - despite  two very large bins being provided nearby on East Park.
Sadly, it seems, you will never change some uncaring members of the public when it comes to dropping litter in the streets.
Street cleaning being within North Lincolnshire Council's remit, Brigg Blog put the above information to the local authority, offering the opportunity to comment.
That met with a quick response from Coun Waltham, outlined above.
