CITY REAL ALE FANS PAY BRIGG PUBS A VISIT

BY PAUL JOHNSON, FRIENDS OF THE BRIGG AND LINCOLN LINES

With Worksop Town Football Club playing at Cleethorpes yesterday (Saturday, April 16th) 34 customers got on the 0803 Sheffield to Cleethorpes passenger train service.
Retford Low Level, Gainsborough Central and Brigg all had acceptable levels of custom for the time of year.
Kirton In Lindsey did very well with people now hearing the garden centre is next to the station and coming by train to visit.
Gainsborough Trinity were playing Lowestoft Town and some of their fans came by train alighting at 1pm at Gainsborough Central.
A group of 6 chaps came from Sheffield up to Brigg to have a look around the town and to visit the real ale pubs.
Despite the fares been reduced between Sheffield and Cleethorpes via Brigg, so far few have take up on this offer, with the faster TPE services always a winner.
We have recommended from the start that there is no market for Sheffield to Cleethorpes via Brigg and ticketing needs to be formulated to bring people onto the Saturday Only services and from Worksop and stations to the east to Cleethorpes seasonally.
A chat with a few of the Worksop Town fans heading to Cleethorpes about ticket prices and services highlighted trains being few and far between and prices  unfair from Worksop if more than one person travelled.
