BRIGG BOOTS ARE MADE FOR WALKING

FROM NORTH LINCOLNSHIRE COUNCIL

This is national  National Walk to Work week and North Lincolnshire Council is inviting Brigg people to sign up to a walking challenge!
All you have to do is sign up at www.walktoworkweek.org.uk – it’s free to sign up. Complete a simple registration form and away you go.
Walking to work may be possible for many people, but those who don’t live within walking distance to where they work can still take part.
Any walking you do between Walk to Work Week (11 to 15 May) – whether during your lunch break, for a meeting, to and from work, or during the evening, can all be included.
You can log your miles to see how they all add up to burn calories and save CO2. Once you get started, it becomes addictive as you see the number of miles grow the more you do!
You can view live totalisers and leader boards to spur you on.
Get competitive with your colleagues and take part in individual and team activities.
The benefits:

  • It strengthens your heart. Regular walking has been shown to reduce your risk of heart disease and stroke.
  • It lowers disease risk
  • It keeps weight in check
  • It can help prevent dementia and osteoporosis
  • It tones your legs, bum and tum
  • It boosts your vitamin D levels

Bob Hulme, Health Improvement specialist at North Lincolnshire Council, said: “Walking is a fantastic way to stay fit and healthy. It has numerous benefits – not least it is good for the mind and body and best of all, it’s free.  Why not give the walking challenge a go? It doesn’t matter how many miles you do – it’s the taking part that counts.”
