HAVE YOU VISITED NEW BRIGG SHOP YET?

We've been handed a flyer today for new Brigg fruit and veg shop The County Basket, 6 College Yard, just a stone's throw from Wrawby Street.
The other day we were re-reading the excellent local history book about the old courtyards of Brigg, edited by Nick Lyons, former head of history at Brigg Grammar School. It contains pictures of College Yard before it was redeveloped. You may  remember the old warehouses which became rather dilapidated with the passage of time.
Now it's a thriving thoroughfare, with a variety of premises - some under the niche category.

It was also the site of a Royalist strong hold, guarding the river crossing during the Civil War.
Like other significant historical sites in the town, it grossly lacks a plaque, or informative plate that could inform and education folk about the town's past.

nb Most historians now agree that the English Civil War was not so much about civil rights, but much more about religious conflict with different Christian denominations fighting each over doctrine and religious power struggles.
It is classified as a religious war, rather than a sectarian conflict.
