When Brigg Blog suggested the other day that drivers should park more carefully when using our valuable town centre on-street parking spaces, we were hoping for a positive response.
Sadly, not much time elapsed before we spotted a large 4 x 4 parked in Bigby Street in such a way that it was impossible to get another vehicle behind or infront of it without fouling adjoining yellow lines.
It was a similar story round the corner in Wrawby Street - opposite the White Horse pub (soon to reopen as a JD Wetherspoon outlet).

When on-street parking bays were introduced in the area about 10 years ago, I was in the group which was in discussions with NLC.
I suggested that the zonal on-street parking areas should be bayed.
In-turn, it was validly argued that vehicles' lengths vary and baying the zones would result in fewer on-street car parking spacing.
This was true for such areas as Grammar School Road South where one, or two potential spaces would be lost because the bays' size would have to relate to the length of bigger cars and not necessarily to the 'average' car length that shoppers, it was assumed, would adapt their required parking space when parking.
However, there is a clear need for the zone opposite the old post office - in front of Hewson House to be bayed
As you've observed, Nige, an inconsiderate driver can block the whole zone, which on an every-day basis could potentially could take 3 to 4 cars.
Perhaps one would lose one potential space (assuming small cars), but, for the greater good, allowing 3 identified on-street car parking spaces is better than the common pattern of an individual, selfish driver dominating the zone...
