Brigg
Children’s Centre, on Grammar School Road, is hosting a World Cup themed Big Lunch event on Saturday 7 June that will bring the local
community together to have some fun.
The
Big Lunch is a free event taking place from 10am to 1pm at the children’s centre
and everyone is welcome to join in.
It
is going to be a big community party with food, music, decorations and lots of
fun.
It
will be great for all the family as they can take part in everything from party
games and a penalty shoot-out to craft competitions, face painting and
decorating chocolate eggs. There will even be the opportunity to win some
prizes.
There
will be free refreshments available and everyone is welcome to bring along a
contribution of pre-packed food to share with others at the event.
For
more information, contact Brigg Children’s Centre on 01652 659882.
The
Big Lunch is a national initiative and it all started from a simple idea the
Eden Project had. The aim is to get as many people as possible across the whole
of the UK to have lunch with their neighbours yearly on the first Sunday in June
in a simple act of community, friendship and fun.
Since
starting in 2009, thousands of Big Lunches have taken place in all types of
communities across the UK. In 2013 3.65m people took to their streets, gardens
and community spaces for the fifth annual Big Lunch.
This
year’s Big Lunch is on Sunday 1 June, but many communities will also be taking
part throughout that week.
Coun Rob Waltham (Brigg & Wolds), Cabinet Member for People, said: “The
Big Lunch is a fantastic way of bringing all the community together in one
place. People lead such busy lifestyles nowadays that it isn’t very often people
get to sit down with their neighbours or people in their community to socialise
and find out a bit more about each other. The event at Brigg Children’s Centre
is going to be a really relaxed environment where everyone can just have fun.
There will be a real community spirit. Brigg residents are encouraged to pop
along and join in.”
