MATCH REPORT BY BOB TAYLOR
Jamie Coulson returned to lead the Brigg attack along with Phil Jackman and Daniel Barrett returned in the back four. However, it was the visitors looking more positive and confident from the start,- a stark contrast to the Brigg team lacking in these qualities. The first attack by the home team resulted from a long free kick into the penalty area by Michael Jacklin but Phil Jackman couldn't get to the ball in front of the goal. Leading Scarborough's attack alongside Gary Bradshaw, Ryan Blott struck their first attempt at goal with an early looping shot from a Ryan Williams cross over the bar. They followed this up with a Steven Ridley header just past the upright post.
Brigg created another scoring opportunity when Scott Matthews got his head to a right wing cross but Matt Plummer cleared the ball from the goal line. The opening goal was scored on the half hour from a set piece corner kick with Steve Ridley floating the ball to the far post for MATT PLUMMER to beat Rob Zand with a close range header into the roof of the net. Another free kick for Brigg was played into the penalty area but the danger was cleared when an off side decision was awarded. The visitors then created the best move of the half with the ball switched from right wing across the pitch to the left and back in for a shot inches wide of the post.
Brigg responded but missed out on a great opportunity to level the score when defender Andy Milne mis-kicked a clearance and the ball went across the face of the goal and out of play at the far side to safety. On the stroke of half time, Ryan Blott was close to increasing the score again when he missed out on another Steven Ridley cross to the far post.
Straight after the break, Ryan Blott struck a shot into the side netting from an acute angle after Rob Zand dropped an attempted back pass to him. A long range free kick from Anthony Bowsley flew over the visitors' cross bar. Brigg were still in with a chance of getting something from the game but conceded a poor second goal after seventy-two minutes when RYAN BLOTT pounced in front of goal to knock the ball into the back of the net after Rob Zand couldn't hold on to a stinging close range shot from Gary Bradshaw. The second goal virtually sealed the points for the visitors but they added a third five minutes from the end when substitute LEWIS CLARKSON collected a loose ball played into the penalty area and found the top corner of the net with a sweet curving shot to emphasise the win.
BRIGG TOWN: Zand, Peers, Barrett, Bowsley, Hellewell, Jacklin, Thewliss, Dickens, Jackman, Coulson, Matthews. Subs: Cross for Barrett (75); Broughton for Jackman (60); Trice, Fisher and Wright not used.
