BRIGG FOOTBRIDGE SEEMINGLY ON A PATH TO OBLIVION

We've seen several posts on social networks recently suggesting that the railway authorities are going to replace the old iron footbridge at Brigg station. Every comment we've seen supports this move.
Public safety is THE important issue here. And if the old bridge really is well past its sell-by date, then so be it.
However, we wonder whether repairs are possible? Otherwise yet another piece of railway history will be disappearing in the next year or two.
Does anyone care sufficiently to make a case for the retention of one of the last remaining structures of its type in the region?
