FIRST SUNDAY OF BRIGG ROADWORKS AT MONUMENT ROUNDABOUT CAUSE DELAYS

One of the major talking points in Brigg today has been the congestion caused by the road resurfacing at the Monument roundabout.
Regular followers may recall the work being made public through Brigg Blog by Councillor Nigel Sherwood back on October 14.
Driver Alert prefixed our headline Brigg Monument A18 roadworks coming up
Coun Nigel,  Cabinet Member for Highways and Neighbourhoods at North Lincolnshire Council, said: "The Monument roundabout is being re-surfaced on Sunday 27 October and the work will be completed the following Sunday 3 November.
"There will be temporary traffic lights at each of the four road exits on both of these days to control traffic flow."
Today's roadworks resulted in lengthy tailbacks of traffic as only one lane, rather than two, was available.
Those drivers with local knowledge took the alternative cross-town route down Grammar School Road, Glebe Road and Woodbine Avenue to avoid the roundabout.
There's no doubt that the A18 needed resurfacing around the Monument. Sunday also sees the lightest traffic. However, no-one likes to be held up on a main road while repairs are undertaken.

Nipping into Brigg this am - the queue from Wrawby was extending towards Brickyard Lane......when I left Brigg, the eastbound queue was overflowing towards the Murco garage in Bridge St.
To return to Wrawby, I went via the M180 - the time/distance equation went a bit haywire, but I avoided the long wait in the traffic congestion as it very slowly crawled towards the Monument roundabout...
