SLIGHTLY CHILLI RECEPTION FOR BRIGG TAKEAWAY'S APPLICATION

An unusual planning application is giving Brigg town councillors food for thought.
It has been lodged for the Diya Spice takeaway at 7 Bigby Street.
Planning permission is currently being sought from North Lincolnshire Council to retain the relocation of an extraction flue.
Brigg Town Council must be consulted as the first stage in the planning process. And when the application appeared before the Planning and Environment Committee, meeting in the Angel Suite, it prompted a good deal of discussion and, overall, received a slightly chilli reception.
There was sympathy for local residents who, it was suggsted, may be affected by noise and vibration resulting from equipment.
Coun Penny Smith said of the issue before them: "I think this is an interesting one."
She described it as a retrospective application.
There was suggested "noise nuisance to residents" and "vibrations that can be felt."
Coun Chris Dyson pointed out that a lot of work had been done to the equipment in question, which had been rebuilt and reconfigured.
The committee would like to find out whether nearby residents feel remedial action has solved the problem.
So Brigg Town Council will withhold its final comments to North Lincolnshire Council until that information is known.
Isfak Ahmed, of Diya Spice, said they had replaced the old ducting system due to the noise nuisance the kitchen extraction system was causing a neighbour.
"The new ducting has replaced the old one so that the position of the flue remains the same, which is located at the side of the building," he added.
"The design and size of the flue is similar to the other fast food properties in the area and is definitely an
improvement from the previous design."
North Lincolnshire Council, as the planning authority, will decide whether the application curries favour, or not.
