BRIGG NETBALL CLUB TO BE HELPED BY TOWN COUNCIL

Brigg and District Netball Club is to get £250 - along with help and advice from Brigg Town Council - following an  application being submitted in writing for a grant/donation.
A meeting of the council's Policy Committee in the Angel Suite heard that the club really needed to find additional finance.
As is always the case with such applications, the town council required a financial statement from the club, which was studied by councillors before they reached a decision.
Coun Mel Oades viewed the club's income and expenditure and concluded there was a "funding gap."
He felt the club needed to hold fundraising events.
Town Clerk Jeanette Woollard thought that being informed about a "Custodian Pot" available in North Lincolnshire might prove helpful to the club. She also pointed out that as club members lived in places other than Brigg, it would be worth the club approaching local parish councils for support, as had happened with the skatepark near the leisure centre.
Coun Jackie Brock suggested money from Brigg Town Council might prove "a lifeline" to the netball club.
Coun Ed Arnott felt the club would have to raise its fees and subscriptions.
"Running a sports club is extremely expensive," he said. "We need to help them but we can only help them so far."
Coun Penny Smith then proposed £250, while Coun Arnott suggested help and advice should also be offered to the netball club.

Within two postings there are references to sporting clubs - netball and tennis.
If we are going to promote sport, finance is an essential factor.
Can I suggest - a proposal that my go down like a lead balloon - that like large businesses and firms who contribute Section 106 money to community projects - ie a house building firm may contribute Sect 106 money to create/improve a children's play area in the whole scheme of things.....individuals submitting an application to NLC Planning Dept also contribute a nominal sum (say £25) that goes into the collective pot for developing sporting facilities.
Such money would be spend to specifically finance wholly, or partially groups/venues/facilities that the wider community (us) have identified and prioritised (perhaps thro' the media of newspapers and the like) as required.
This sort of novel approach will not only encourage community involvement, but during the process will also advertise and promote the evloving range of sporting/recreational facilities within the Authority.
Obviously, I don't know whether it would be legally possible to implement a 'sporting supplementary' to a planning application fee.....but there maybe other ways for NLC to collectively gain fanances for specific sporting ventures. For instance, folks tend not to grumble over-much when they appreciate, for example, the odd 10p on a carparking charge will directly be contributed to a specific project - which has community backing.
Overall, this type of intervention could well be perceived as basically community-led and not council-led and, therefore, reduce the often prevailing doom & gloom that the council are only following their own agenda.

Yes/No?
