WHY NO CO-OP STORE IN BRIGG ?

We came through Hibaldstow the other day, where work is progressing on building a new Co-op store to serve the village. It will be situated near the chip shop, just round the corner from the Wheatsheaf pub.
Well into the 1960s, Brigg used to have a Co-op store on Glebe Road.
The renowned retailer has established new outlets in North Lincolnshire over recent years, including Broughton and Crowle. So why not Brigg?

The Coop Movement was formed in Rochdale in circa 1850's.
A group of merchants bonded together to sell goods at reasonable cost to the evolving Industrial Revolution workers.
However, the embryonic concept possibly initiated in Scotland.
I can still remember my Granny Turner's divi number - 17139 - years before Green Shield stamps and Tesco incentives...

Other later developments were the George Cadbury's Bournville village of the ?1890's and Joseph Rowntree's model village a facade later.
We also have Saltaire ....
Both Cadbury and Rowntree were Quakers...
The Rowntree Housing Trust still exists and I believe there are a number of affordable houses in Brigg that have roots with the trust.
