LISTED BUILDING CONSENT SOUGHT FOR BRIGG LANDMARK

Brigg has a solitary grade one listed building, which is now the subject of a planning application being considered by North Lincolnshire Council.
Listed building consent is being sought for a small gas meter kiosk and internal maintenance works at Sir John Nelthorpe School, on Grammar School Road.
The school was founded in local landowner Sir John Nelthorpe's will of 1669.
However, it took a few years for the seat of learning to be built and opened to the initial batch of pupils.
As the old grammar school song Fortitudine explains: Sir John's bequest opened wide the door of learning's mystic temple to every devotee.
The grammar school's long reign ended in 1976 when comprehensive education was introduced and today's Sir John Nelthorpe School established.
The original school formed part of the building pictured here. The premises were extended in 1878.
The old boarding house at the back of the school, overlooking the playing fields, is also Victorian.
