ON-SONG BRIGG RAILWAY STATION PICTURE PUTS US IN NOSTALGIC MOOD

If Brigg Blog ever gets an invitation to go on radio's long-running Desert Island Discs, one of the songs we'd choose would be the Doobie Brothers' 1973 classic Long Train Runnin'.
Ken Harrison's picture, above, taken last Saturday at Brigg railway station, soon had us humming the tune.
As we suggested would happen, the train company ran a longer-than-normal train on the Sheffield to Cleethorpes route last Saturday, with Brigg Town FC playing Sheffield United at The Hawthorns and many "Yorkies" looking to head to the east coast resort to enjoy a summer day out in the sun.
While he was there, Ken kindly took a picture of the Victorian footbridge which is expected to be demolished in the not too distant future. We suggest you don't leave it too long if you want to take a last look at this Brigg landmark - the final link to the station in the 19th century when it boasted a fine range of buildings, including booking office, newspaper kiosk and even a roof.
Enjoy Long Train Runnin' (with fine chuffing video) through this link

How about 'The Six-Five Special' ....is chugging down the line....The 6-5 special is on time.....?
Some of us remember the pop programme....the ganddaddy of all pop shows.....Started in the late 50's (?57).....with Pete Murray, Jim Dale and a lady......
It was the time of the skiffle bands - everyone was a musician with a broom handle stuck in a tea chest between which lengths of string were attached. One could get different twang sounds by bending the broom handle....while the tea chest acted as an echo chamber......then there was the wash-board....thimbles on fingers...and hey-presto....a splattering of clickerty-click
sounds......
