In recent weeks a number of people, including councillors in the town, have commented to me about how good it is to see Brigg Town Cricket Club still operating and enjoying some success now the new season is under way.
Brigg Town are down to only one team and a few of us feared they might struggle to keep going in 2012. But they have proved the doubters wrong, me included!
Brigg continue to play in the East Yorkshire Alliance division three, involving quite lots of travel over the Humber Bridge to Hull and more rural destinations near the city. Clearly the reduction in bridge tolls will be a big help!
On Jubilee bank holiday Monday this week, Town visited Hull Ionians Coal Exporters 3rds and won by three wickets. It was a low-scoring game, the Coalmen being bowled out for 71, with Siva Siva taking four for 16 in 10 overs for Brigg.
Town were then made to work hard for victory, all-rounder Siva, a new signing this season, seeing them home with an undefeated 31, as Brigg recovered from being 31 for seven.
Tomorrow (Sat June 9) third-placed Brigg are due to entertain division three leaders Roos 2nds at the Receation Ground (1pm start), though the weather will have to improve considerably for the game to go ahead.
