CAST YOUR MINE PIES OVER THIS BRIGG EVENT


It will soon be Mince Pie Day in Brigg - so read on if you are a fan of this Christmas delicacy.
The Lincolnshire Humber Federation of Women's Institutes will be hosting the mince pie event at W.I. House, on Queen Street, in the town centre.
This will take place on Thursday, December 7, from 10am to 12.30pm.

A long time ago, Nige, mince pies actually had minced meat in them.
Comprising mutton, fruit and herbs, the pies were made popular by folks returning from the Crusades...hence they had a Christian connection.
During the English Civil War - C17th...mince pies were banned by the Puritans because they claimed they were a Popish (RC) symbol.
Now they are a popular traditional cake, but don't have mines in them Scoops!

.....another silly fact is that mince pies were much larger than the individual round cakes we find today; it was a fairly large rectangular pie and the pastry casing was called a coffin...again, all symbolic and to do with Big J and religion...
