CONCERT OF NOTE FOR BRIGG AREA MUSIC-LOVERS TO ENJOY

Hands up if you remember the glorious years Brigg Band when, after re-forming circa 1964, it enjoyed prize-winning successes.
Here's a picture from the early 1970s to bring back a few memories.
Why band members were performing in the Recreation Ground car park we can't recall.
Many local folk enjoy music of this type, so we were interested to see that long-established Barnetby Silver Band has a concert of note coming up.
This will be a joint venture with the West Yorkshire Brass Band.
It will take place at Barnetby Village Hall, Silver Street, on Saturday, October 21, starting at 7.30pm.
Barnetby Junior Band will also feature at the event.
Tickets cost £6, refreshments included, with free admission for children under 12.
For further information, call 01652 688535, 01652 688885 or 07742 499457.

The photo is b4 the time I drifted ashore in Brigg....but one person I do remember who was a stalwart and enthusiastic member of Brigg Bass Band was Vin East....he was an RAF pilot during WW2, later working for the council and was for many years the OC of the air cadets.
Now for a bit of history....Brigg Brass Band evolved from Wrawby Brass Band.
WBB was formed circa 1860 and practised in the Primitive Methodist Chapel, now a private house, in Little Lane.
At the turn of the century - 19th/20th...it was meeting at the Brit, or was it the Dying Glad pub....by circa 1903, it renamed itself Brigg BB.

I think Vin is the trumpet player in the centre of pic - just above the red sign.
Also, if I recall properly, there is a picture of the band in Edward Dodd's 'Brigg' book when they performed at Bellvue in Manchester.
(Bellvue was a fair/conference centre - now long gone in east Manchester......one family memory was when my brother - a learner rider, without L plates, after crossing the Snake Pass, was flagged down outside Bellvue by a burly policeman late at night in the early 60's.
My brother thought he was in deep trouble.....but the pc wanted to scrounge a lift as pillion to Picadilly...further along the A57. Phew!)
