CELEBRATORY MASS AND BIRTHDAY BASH AT BRIGG CHURCH

PICTURES AND REPORT BY KEN HARRISON

Friday evening saw a very special occasion at Brigg's St Mary's RC Church.
A special Mass, followed by meal, had been arranged to celebrate both Father Benedict's 40 birthday and his 10 years in the priesthood.
Father Benedict was born and trained for the church in Nigeria and before becoming the incumbent priest at St Mary's about 9 months ago, served in Mansfield and Scunthorpe parishes.
The vibrant special occasion attracted parishioners from a wide area and fellow priests participated in both the Mass and birthday celebrations.
The Rev David Eames and family, from Broughton's St Mary's Anglican Church, also attended.
A West Indian gospel choir added to the evening's celebratory occasion and received a loud rapture of applause from the full church at the end of the mass.
Sharing the birthday occasion with Father Benedict was 93 year-old parishioner, Kay McCourt, from Barton Road, Wrawby.
Father Benedict thanked parishioners for arranging and organising the birthday meal in the church hall.
