It’s some weeks since this wall on Bridge Street, alongside the A18, was demolished in an accident. Presumably the repair work is on a North Lincolnshire Council list. No rush – just a gentle reminder to the powers-that-be it’s in a prominent location as drivers come into Brigg. We aren't sure whether it's actually within the Conservation Area, but if not it must be very close indeed.
Rather than pass by on the other side of the road, Brigg Blog thought we'd play the Good Samaritan, this being Sunday, the Lord's Day, and make a plea for progress.

Funny business this Conservation Area stuff.....I e-mailed NLC about 3 weeks ago for an explanation why the Council had suddenly displayed a map and the criteria for Brigg CA....but the official notice did not explain why such a notice was displayed about Brigg.....but it did indicated the cut-off date for comments was 24th Feb.
Despite a few reminders...NLC have not replied to me..... Lack of explanation, slowness to respond can give rise to suspicion that something is funny peculiar!
Does Brigg have an official CA, or do we just think we have?

......being a bit of a Devil's advocate, Scribs, it's not the perfect weather for bricklaying. Frosty ice crystals can affect structural strength of the mortar and rain can similar dilute the gobbo (builder's term), or wash the mortar from the joints.
It doesn't really explain why the site has not been cleared....

Brickies often charge by the number of bricks laid. Maybe scribs has you on commission for number of words printed.

My brick-laying rate is about 6 per hour. I specialise in the 'rustic' look, 'cos they tend to have a mind of their own when laid...After I've mixed the gobbo, put some washing-up liquid in to make it pliable; laid me six bricks,it's time to have a break and a mug of tea.
I once mixed mortar in a cement mixer; squirted some fairy liquid in....and then went for a break.....forget about mixer and when I go back, the mortar was all white and fluffy!
Another time I got the shovel could inside the mixer on the paddles - the shovel handle then got caught in on old coat I was wearing, which twisted itself about the handle......for the next 20 minutes, I was doing forward rolls in time with the rotating drum and shovel....only saved when the petrol ran out.....I had two breaks after that!!
