SHOW TIME IN WRAWBY - BRIGG VISITORS WELCOME

Brigg people are welcome to attend the annual show coming up in nearby Wrawby.
The village's 78th annual horticultural show will be held tomorrow (Sunday, August 14, 2022).
This Village Hall-based event will open to the public at 2pm, with prizes presented at 4pm (followed by an auction of produce). Admission is a snip at 20p, and refreshments will be available.
Brigg Blog's last visit to Wrawby's horticultural show a couple of years ago proved very enjoyable.
We met a number of people from our town in addition to village residents, and had a cuppa and a cake or two.
This is a traditional community event and reminded us of summers in the 1980s when we were delegated to compile reports of various local horticultural shows for the Lincolnshire & South Humberside Times.
Staff photographer Coun Bryan Robins would visit with his camera over the weekend; a reporter would then drive over to meet the show secretary a few days later and collect full results of all classes (1st, 2nd and 3rd) to include with the report in that Friday's edition.
Websites and email had yet to arrive on the scene so everything had to be keyed in on an office typewriter at 57 Wrawby Street, Brigg.
The old journalist saying "names sell papers" would come to mind as reporters slogged their way through sheet after sheet of show results.
People did like to see their names in print, though, so it was well worth the effort, especially as August was a time of year when circulation tended to dip because many regular readers would be away on holiday.
In the 1990s, while a sub-editor with the Scunthorpe Evening Telegraph, we often had the task of displaying local show reports and pictures at this time of year, with all class names highlighted in bold type.
Computer technology simplified the production process but it was still a time-consuming task for reporters, photographers and those tasked with putting their efforts on the inside pages.
