BRIGG GARDEN COMPETITION 2022 AWARDS PRESENTED TO THE JUDGES' CHOICES

Brigg Town Council presented prizes to the 2022 winners of its annual and long-established Garden Competition.
During weeks of mainly hot, warm and dry weather, local gardeners have been hoping for rain.
And plenty fell while the presentation ceremony was being held yesterday (Thursday, August 25) in the Bandstand, which offered some welcome cover.
Derek Capp, from the Newlands estate, reaped the benefit of his hard work (and spadework) by taking the honours for the best front garden - repeating last year's triumph.
Ted Lusby, also of Almond Grove, became the first recipient of a new award for tending the best wildlife garden (helping 'Mother Nature').
Jenny Mumby trumphed in the hanging baskets section, while the Black Bull pub, on Wrawby Street, won the Business in Bloom category.
Certificates, trophies and giftcards were presented by Coun Brian Parker, Brigg Town Mayor, with Kerry McGrath, Town Clerk, announcing the results.
Accompanied by Coun Jane Gibbons, the Town Mayor went over to the Black Bull to do the honours in the beer garden immediately after the conclusion of prize-giving in the Market Place.
Opening hours being under way by then, mine hosts Andy and Tracey Noon had been unable to join the other recipients.
Derek Capp's very apt choice of shirt drew some admiring glances yesterday morning.
It carried the inscription I Love Gardening From My Head TOMATOES.
